Her boots thudded in a rhythm only the forest floor could make. Through the rush of tree trunks and the swatting away of low branches, Leo followed the trail that would lead her to the girl.

"Stop! It's me!" She shouted, her eyes trained to summon up the shroud again to defend against any predator that prowled and stalked. "Please, it is just me!"

Leo felt a panic rise within her. A desperate need to find the girl and give her the protection she needed. Hells, Leo would steal the girl away now and get her the help and healing she needed. Fuck the payment the Fiend Bearer had offered. The Spellbreaker felt her lungs turn cold. Every breath was ice.

Her breaths came out in it's own shroud of steam.
"Fuck." Her emotions were running too high, the shroud too eager to obey her desperation. That was her curse. To be able to wield all this power, but the cost was too great of a sum to pay. Leo slowed her running, had crashed into a tree to stop herself suddenly.

She needed her breath before the shroud took it. To calm her mind before she called upon the shroud again.

Inhale, exhale. She repeated this for several heart beats before the earth moved around her. It searched. It sought. It prowled. The vines and roots that inhabited this forest twisted and turned, seeking out the girl.

"Do not run. Do not be afraid." She cooed against the tree, but that whisper would reach the girl. "You are not in the best shape to outrun the wolves."

Leo gasped, feeling the roots at her feet cut at her thigh. For a few moments did she feel her blood trickle down her leg, and the payment of the shroud was taken. She chewed at her lip, not fighting the stinging pain. Payment was fair, she always knew that.

Brinda may have been half dead. Torn to shit and back. Barely patched up an ready to keel over. But by the toils, she was a Buzzard. And damn proud of it. Jesper Ghost Fingers' apprentice. No way. No way in all the Shattered Mirrors, was she going to let some slug brained Cazasnore princess find her!

She would lose them. She knew how. Covered her tracks. Moved like a ghost. That the purple haired one couldn't track her. Fevered and sweat slick as she was, well, Brinda still managed a smile at that. Was proof of her quality. Her gumption and know how. She just had to move away from the sounds the woman was making.

Do not be afraid. Do not run. Brinda grit her teeth at the commands. Putting one clumsy foot in front of the other. Who in the Shattered Mirrors did this woman think she was? She was just some purple haired bimbo! A killer! And. And...

Well, Brinda was a right killer now too, wasn't she?

Didn't matter. The girl with the lightning crackle scars about her eyes, and the bolt of white air struck across her brown main stayed still. Focused on quieting her breathing. Ignored the lances of pain the ran up her arm. The heat that clouded her thinking.

She would slip them. She would get away. She had to. She had to. For Ghost Fingers. For Jesper.

Heard the brambles and roots break. Fabric rip, pain work through a throat. She grinned. "Louder than a fletched boar," she muttered to herself. Moved in the opposite direction.

Show me her, Leo asked of the Shroud.

The Shroud that was too eager to give her power, but the moment she needed something, the Shroud danced away from the vicinity of hearing her.

Show me the wolves, and that request was immediate. Leo could sense the distances away, felt safe that she was not in immediate danger.

Show me... him.

The Spellbreaker turned back, and there in the distance behind trunks and darkness, the glimmer of the Fiend Bearer could be seen by her magicked sight.

The roots and thorns curled about her now, but their will to the earth was weak enough for her to move forward and make her advance. The trace of the girl was still visible, already gaining a head start.

Leo rolled her eyes, not at all pleased her life had come to this. Not only dealing with Garrod Arlette of all people, but now she was chasing a child that was in his care who had no qualms to run through a forest in the middle of the night. She could let the child go, let nature and the wills of survival take care of the child's fate, but a force kept Leo moving forward.

This time, she did not run. Hunters did not give away their presence after all.
