Now she'd done it.
"Look, it's eh, well it's not the kind of thing you might appreciate."
Did bears eat squirrels? She'd chased them as a cub but she couldn't remember catching one. Small, even for a snack."

His insistence grew and she caved.
"OKAY. Okay, I'll tell you but you need to calm down. Can you do that?"
Folk were watching and she had not told anyone here about herself. She didn't rightly know what they would make of it. Leagues from the north she was an oddity even up there. Here, she wondered if they might put her in a zoo or a circus.

Once Scamper had settled she leaned in.
"Okay, you cannot tell anyone promise?"
Carefully she held out her pinky finger to him as she leaned across the table, still reluctant to speak it out loud.

@Scamper

As Arbok leaned in, Scamper felt a rush course throughout his being. Though small in stature, his excitement dwarfed him in abundance. He absolutely adored secrets; especially considering how quickly his kin is to forget them, bad memory and all. Regardless, he excitedly nodded up and down before adopting a more "covert" tone and energy to accompany the gravity of the secret; letting out an audible gasp as she'd held out her pinky finger across the table.

"Is this...for me?", truly taken aback, Scamper looked at the pinky finger, then back to her; repeating this process for a few moments before tearing up once again and standing on the table to reach her finger. "Yet again you've brought me to tears, Arbok. I've always dreamed of pink promises as a youngin; never thought I'd actually get to do it". As he clasped his hands around her pinky finger (absolutely missing the point of how this works), he shook up and down; speaking in a whisper to prevent outside ears.

"Your secret is safe with me, friend. Also, I feel like one of those spies I read about in the books; I just thought I should let you know that".

@Arbok

Oh boy....
Here went nothing.

"I am also a bear. I mean, I can turn into myself but I a bear. I'm a bear but mostly I'm human, sometimes I'm a bear but I don't go for squirrel folk or anything. I'm still me."

Saying it like that concerned Arbok as to wether she was understood or not. Sometimes her words got the better of her and more than once she often wished that she had kept her big gob shut.

"Just, keep it quiet okay?"
Her brown eyes pleaded with Scamper to not erupt loudly.

@Scamper

As her words left her mouth - and even as he'd registered them, Scamper for a change of pace had been relatively quiet. When she'd asked him to not cause an outburst, he could see in her eyes she was desperate in her request; there was just one problem.

"....Huh?"

He was confused.

"You're a bear? I don't get it. How are you a bear AND you at the same time? Where is the bear now? Did we forget the bear at the entrance?", he crossed his arms, tilting his head as he dove deeper into confusion, "A bear but MOSTLY human? Does that mean I can be a human too? Wait...",
his eyes widened with shock and potential, "Can I be a human?....Oh my god..."

For a moment, Scamper stood in shock, looking at his hands and feet then to all the humans around him as if experiencing some sort of psychedelic trip. Finally, snapping out of the trip, his gaze focused on Arbok; a determined expression plastered upon his visage. "Arbok you have to teach me; you have to teach me how to become a real man!" , jumping off the table, he dashed toward the door - realized he'd forgotten her, and came back; motioning her to follow. "We can't waste another moment! Come. On. Arbok"!

@Arbok

Oh no.

"What? no I can't teach it, it's not a thing you can learn It's just, how I am."

Her finished bowel got set to the side and she tried to think of a way to explain it.

"Scamper,"

She put her hands up in an expression of earnest honesty.
"I can't teach you how to be human because, well..."

Her voice went low again for secrecy's sake.
"It's not like there are many people who can do this kinda thing."

The tavern was picking up now, mid day rush was starting to gather and sit, creating a din of mixed voices and bodies. She was grateful for the cover it gave their conversation.

@Scamper

As he stopped in his tracks, absorbing Arbok's words in full, Scamper took a moment to ponder over them; closing his eyes to hyperfocus on his thoughts.

"Alright Scamps, this is clearly a test. She doesn't trust you with valuable knowledge and why would she? You two have just met after all. There's got to be some kind of hidden message in all of this; somewhere I should be reading between the--", his eyes snapped to a wide open position as his hands once again clasped his face. "I get it now....it all make sense to me..."
Scamper placed his hands on his hips triumphantly as he offered Arbok a studied and educated expression "Arbok, you sly dog- er, bear you! I just need to BE human. It isn't something you can teach, it's like a flow state or one of those transformations I hear about in my books!", turning toward the door once more, he let out a confident chuckle; shaking his head as if he'd figured it all out.

"Oh Arbok, now that I know the truth, it's only a matter of time before I'm as tall as you; maybe taller even, who knows?", taking up a motivational pose, he looked up to his ancestors and smiled up at them, "Just you wait, my kin. I know what my story is gunna be about now! IM GUNNA BE A REAL BOY"!

With that, Scamper stormed out of the establishment and out into the street; not knowing where he was heading, but knowing that he'd do so assuredly.
