One can always find the light within the darkness. Look hard enough, and you will make a path for the unsuspecting. All that matters is how far you are willing to go to reach it; there is a higher height for every peak, from the mountain of books to streams of sweat pouring down his body. Blood rushed to his head as he continued to hold himself upright, defying gravity by sheer force of will. Fingers throbbed as the soreness and aching became more apparent as Kilam finished his physical workout. Lowering himself down, he placed both feet on either side of his hand along the edge of the stacked stones.

They were oddly balanced edge against edge, their flat ends did not touch the floor, and yet the stacked pillar did not sway. Light poured in from a singular hole over his head. Despite the shadows blocking his view of the area around, he knew there was nothing there. It was a pit his father and mother had made for him since his accident. A place to utilize his newfound skills and test his theories with his new arm. Overhead, a cumulus cloud of shroud and elemental magic crackled. Spheres of metal and shroud stones hovered with joints and rings sparking from the empty socket on his left side.

Standing tall, Kilam dismounted the stacked stones, landing upon the balls of his feet in a crouch. Cutting off the shroud energy, the gold and black arm swiftly pieced itself back together. Every metallic piece has runes etched into it, helping reduce the drain of shroud energy when Weaving. Clicking into place, the runes changed color as the shroud stones found their place at the elbow, shoulder, and wrist. Flexing his left hand, the stone in the wrist cracked before splintering into dust. The runes turned from green to red, and the limb itself fell useless against his side. Seeing white spots, warm liquid began to pour from his left nostril, staining the white robes. Stumbling a few steps, Kilam dropped to one knee, letting his body regulate.

"Dammit.. Not again.. There has to be a better way to maintain this arm and still weave." Mumbling to himself, he slowly pinched his nose and blew, spraying the last bit of blood out of his nose. Staggering upright, Kilam turned to face the shadows, making out the door, he began walking towards the door frame. Flames ignited around the pit, illuminated decorated walls, and lavish statues of his kindred of old. Taking his tunic, Kilam tore it into a sling using his teeth to help tie the limb up against his chest. Ignoring the bloodstains, it was a normal appearance for Kilam at this point. Hardheaded but tenacious nonetheless in his venture to discover new things.

Yet here he was, the troublemaker of the Karandas family. While being a Seeker in reputation, there was no shortage of trouble in his wake when dealing in the shadows. Traveling the long halls and crystal elevators, Kilam soon found himself at the core of Miraj'Dah. Home of the brightest engineers and crystal makers. The ones who maintained this city's flowing abilities. Silent was his approach as he passed the guards at the door, gesturing to his arm, they paid him little heed. Kilam's visits to the Crystal Engineers were a normal ordeal since his return from the ground. Peaking left and right, he had yet to find someone to help him actually improve the limb, but someone else in the Seeker's section told him of Palesa. One of their brightest and most inquisitive mind had found an interest in his condition.

Now if only he could find her. Sauntering down the halls, Kilam kept out of the way. Sitting mostly in the shadows with a blood-stained, ripped tunic.

Palesa's office had seen better days, but it had also seen worse. Sometimes the brightest ideas were born from the chaos. Crystals, strips of metal, and various tools lay scattered across surfaces. Crates lay open full of crystals of various sizes where she'd been in the middle of sorting out some to find the ones that would be strong enough to power the enchantments that kept the great city afloat. Yet even that important task lay forgot at the moment as the woman worked at a small device that could heat metal to molten. It was an easy way to test ideas without requiring a full working forge, using crystals to heat the ceramic bowl to temperatures high enough to melt the silver.

With a pair of tongs, she lifted the bowl and poured the molten silver into the mold that she'd made. Setting the tools aside, the engineer stripped the thick gloves from her hands and set them on the workbench. Standing to stretch while she waited for the metal to cool so she could open the mold for the next step of her experiment. Her back cracked and she let out a soft sound of pleasure as it loosened the muscles from the time that she'd spent hunched over.

The room was still hot from the little mini-magical forge. So she took the crystal from the device so that it would stop heating before heading off out of the mess of her work space and headed down the hall toward the shared common space where she typically took her meals. It was better to keep food out of the workspace. It wouldn't do to have things interfere with the delicate workings of the magic and enchantments of the workroom.

She was on her way back to her workroom after a quick snack and enough time to let her work cool. As she moved through the halls, giving nods to other crystal engineers, she noticed someone she didn't recognize. Her eyebrow raising when she got a look at him, blood stained shirt, an arm that shined in the crystal produced light of the hall settled in a sling from his shoulder. "Excuse me. Do you need a healer? If so I think you may be lost." The arm kept catching her attention, something drawing her eyes back to it.

It was almost as if the gods had a twisted sense of humor. Even as he had been observing the area before him, the one he sought had found him instead. Popping up from behind his body, a calm gaze flashed with keen insight. His lips curled into a deep smile as she asked about a healer. A low chuckle rumbled in the lad's chest as he slowly turned to face her. "Nay, fair lady, I was told there was an engineer in these parts with a keen interest in new things.. A genius known by the name Palesa. Could you point me in the right direction? I think she would like to see this, even spend time working on it, given the option." Kilam feinted unknowingly, looking around once again, his eyes locked onto a pair of Engineers servicing another odd contraption that he had personally never seen.

Then again, there were many books and taboo records in these halls that a select few knew about. Thoughts crossed his mind if he should bring up the Marytr with Palesa or not. Would she even know of his academic work with crossing magic tech with the flesh? Only time would tell at this point, but even now, he prefers to get the arm looked at first before diving off into other topics. "A healer will be visited in time, for now the effects have passed, thank you for asking." Kilam had noticed how she gazed at his arm repeatedly while speaking with him, turning to face her, he awaited an answer. In the same motion, he further exposed the arm for her to see. Giving a slight shrug, he inclined his head in asking if she would like to have a closer examination of the limb.
