The Celestial Elements
A ring system of crystal meteors and mineral dust belts across the sky, glimmering inspiration of many a myth. There is a different name for these rings in every culture, and many believe them to be a visual representation of the Shroud. Regardless of belief, the celestial elements from the rings oft rain down upon the land in meteorological events. And these elements have magical effects not found anywhere else on the planet.
Shroud stones - Also known as Mother shards, and often simply called shards, shroud stones are the most common element which falls from the sky. Meteor showers were once more common, and large deposits are often found in the desert and Boiling Sea. Shroud-stones are crystals which have the unique ability to absorb and store Shroud from the natural environment. This stored Shroud can then be released as energy - fueling most magitech in the world.
Weavers must be careful when using shroud stones to bolster their magic, as they are more susceptible to the shard's draining effects than non-weavers. A shard is not discerning from where it replenishes its stored shroud. A crystal used too quickly or too often can sap its user of life.
Armonium - A rare material imbued with volatile elements. It rains down as a fine dust, and collects in drifts blown by the wind. Only skilled crafters can refine armonium and melt it into glass. Once molded, the glass armonium takes on a certain aspect (fire, water, light, etc.) and makes weaving with that aspect easier. Unlike shroud stones, armonium does not absorb and retain shroud. It only 'filters' its effects and improves the efficiency of spellcasting.
Ring Ore - Chunks of rock which contains traces of celestial metal. The effects of the metals are not well recorded - the elements may not even have a significant impact on the Shroud. However, this does not stop people from placing value on ring ore, and it is considered a rare material fit for heroes and kings.
