"Wonder what this place is," the hush of Roki's voice came slow as his bright golden eyes peered about the vine-ridden stonework. Steady hands set to stir the frothy liquid that bubbled up from the belly of the stout cast iron pot. His ears listening to the low gurgle and hiss of the contents inside. The birdsong was bright in his ears, and the way which the sun poured through the vaulted windows made all look aglow. "Probably a shrine to old gods," he thought, spoon sure with its easy turns.
His mentor, and guardian during this long trek across the lands, Syr Lefelen, was out scouting with Syr Dunnird. The trio of chrysanthemums on the hunt for a supposedly blighted pack of wolves that had terrorized wagoneers between the towns of Ilona and Ruhavi.
They had told Roki they would not engage the twisted beasts without him. That his weave work might be needed, to help put the creature down for good But truth be told, he didn't right care if he ever met a blighted beast. The thought of it turned his stomach.
A wild creature, a dear or a falcon, turned to that strange and abyssal form. All tendril and puss, with cancerous growths that swoll to sickly yellow and purpling red.
Snap of branch and fall of leaf pulled the Squire's eyes out one of the windows. His head flicked, and set the violet wave of his locks to bounce. Big batty ears twitched as they listened.
"Someone there?" he called out.
