The Flightless

The House of Cartegena is older than many but newer than some. For generations they served as simple lords of the march, fighting tool and nail for every scrap of Altalusian honor. Be it through luck or merit their status rose from the petty to the undeniable. Those who scoffed now lathered every word with honey. Yet the great game was only loyal to the most ruthless or the most stalwart; neither virtue did Cardinale's grandsire or sire possess. Large debts saw much of their lands and nobility stripped away.

Enter the son of a ridicule and misfortune. Desperations breeds recklessness. He wove with talent, but what was that in the face of war. The North teaches the hardest lessons much to the detriment of Cardinale's leg. He limped back from the front with a renewed sense of derision and drive. In the following years Cardinale did everything he could to elevate the status of House Cartegena.

The former county, held aloft by a flightless bird.

House Cartegena

Appearance

Height  6'1
Hair  Black
Eyes  Amber

A crimson doublet and poised demeanor mark the man known as Cardinale. His gently pointed ears denote the mixed heritage of his house. His moniker as the 'Flightless' is not without reason as the Viscount walks with a pronounced limp. A cursed injury incurred during his battle with the northern barbarians. Cardinale uses a shroudcane to assist him, his pride allowing for nothing else.

Personality

  • Cunning
  • Ambitious
  • Adaptive
  • Sarcastic
  • Cautious

Skills

Down is Up - He has always been able to weave gravity since he could remember. Mostly he sought to bring the weight that he bore down upon others. Trained though he may be, Cardinale finds exerting his influence over the Shroud in this manner to be particularly taxing.

The Eternal Game - Cardinale's greatest strength is his political acumen. A knack for staying a step ahead, he's used this talent to maintain his house's relevancy despite their unfavorable status. He learned the hard way that this does not necessarily translate to the battlefield. The scion may have excelled in strategy but not in tactics.
