Who would have thought that some farm girl from some small village with only two cows would have the gift of shroudweaving? Not the Wulfharts who toiled away day and night to pay off their taxes-- an unfortunate amount of debt that would stay in the family for generations but was secretive enough that the parents never told their children of such tragic circumstances. Her gift was discovered when she was tasked with tending the soup, something Celine never liked as a ten-year-old girl who found hanging around with her older brothers (and, ultimately, their chores) far more exciting than being stuck in a small kitchen full of smoke. The broth sloshed over, wetting the wood beneath and nearly eradicating the flame. It was more of a bother than a chore to grab new wood and start the fire anew, and with a heavy sigh, Celine had resigned herself to her fate.

Something inside her sparked to life, a connection with the small flame still hanging in the pit. She turned, a sharp intake of surprise that held a realization: she could feed the flame with her breath. And so she did, getting on her hands and knees, gingerly crawling to that singular flame. She had to angle her head in such a way so as not to burn her cheek against the pot hanging only inches away. She breathed in, then out, gently giving air from her lungs. The fire grew greater than it should have, and it didn't burn her-- no, she only felt warmth. Unfortunately, she could not control it, so tragedy had to strike like every story about learning great power.

She burnt down her house and nearly her whole village. Currently, she is still paying reparations to that same debt collector who had her own family in a chokehold, as well as all the debts of the other villagers who had the fire affect their livelihood. Leaving her village at sixteen, ten years later, Celine is in more debt than she realizes, but of course, why would interest make sense to a country girl from Altalusia?

Appearance

Height  5'7
Build  Athletic; soft natural body type
Hair  Red
Eyes  Hazel

Long, wavy auburn hair with natural copper highlights is the first thing anyone will notice about Celine. Her fair skin has a large smattering of freckles along her face, neck, chest, shoulders, and arms. She has strong, blunt, and wide features, the most prominent of which are her thick brown brows, round cheeks, strong jaw, and wide, full lips. Naturally, she has a rosy hue to her cheeks that hasn't left her since she was a child running amongst wheat fields. Her hazel eyes usually go unnoticed as she was not gifted with long, thick eyelashes-- much to her dismay, her eyelashes remain short, sparse, and translucent copper.

Personality

Celine is "country girl charming," as one passerby said so kindly. She is amiable and quick to help those in need, especially the elderly. Her mother instilled in her excellent manners, and she upholds her polite and friendly demeanor as much as she can. This does not make her any less serious. When hired to do any work, she has proven efficient and capable, albeit hesitant, in tackling a task she has yet to handle. An undercurrent of a lack of confidence can be found in nearly all her interactions.

Skills

Shroudweaving: Celine is self-taught and has learned everything she knows about shroudweaving from experience. While she has talent and a good amount of experience, she is not a master. Bad habits have formed, and because of this, Celine will suffer from fatigue much faster than well-trained and taught shroud weavers.
Elemental: only fire
Form: breath
Cost: lifespan, mentally taxing

When Celine uses the Shroud to start the spark between air and something flammable, three aspects of her body glow: her eyes glow like gold, her hair glows like a vibrant crimson, and golden veins can be seen where her skin is thin. It is not costly to create the first flame but to feed it until all can hear the mighty roar of fire and see the smoke fill the sky; Celine must give herself to let it grow into something to be feared: her breath. By controlling her breath in specific patterns, the flames will increase, and then she can use physical movements to bend the will of fire to her own, which takes a mental toll on her.

The length of Celine's hair and the vibrancy of her eyes are vital to those who face her. Celine gives her own life to use the Shroud, and her hair reflects how long she has left. The ends of her crimson locks have an ombre effect, fading to a coppery orange tinged with gold. The more she shroudweaves, the shorter her hair will become, a physical representation of the life being eaten by the flames she controls.
