Daniyah
Age 31
Gender Female
Occupation Cazadore
One day, finally, the money will run out. Then it is the time to face the hangover and the problems one tried to wash away. Her humanity must have been lost when she put the knife in the girl's stomach, when she tore out the contents from abdomen with her bare hands, just to reach That which had taken root in the woman's womb. Even when Daniyah had dug near It, she had felt in her soul that It was wrong and did not belong here. Her whole soul had objected when she had grabbed It. No one was supposed to touch It.
But people like her have to put their humanity at risk, to keep those without any humanity at all.. away from the doorstep.
And one day, the coin will run out, and the moment will come to face what one has long tried to drown.
They call her a Wraithbinder, a lantern-bearer in lands men no longer dare to name.
Daniyah is mostly known for killing the vampire Ul'Varek, the Old Hunger, that use to torment the Free States.
Appearance
Height 5,7''
Hair Ash blonde
Eyes Pale blue
Someone who is constantly seen by her side is the mule Oscar, her constant companion. And like all half-bloods he has a foul temper, which can only be curbed by excessive coddling.
Personality
After an incident in Greyhollow-by-the-Sea, Daniyah rarely devotes much time to her duties within Malcazadores, unless she is out of money. She is usually found at a tavern or brothel. She drinks too much and too often. Spends most of her hard-earned money on drinking.
Skills
Boots crunching over frostbitten graves...
Wherever the dead refuse to rest, she walks. She’s a specialist in hauntings, possessions, and the undead, the kind of threats that don’t bleed. Daniyah is usually hired when priests fail and the corpses start talking.
Her main weapon is a modified crossbow, compact, reinforced, and versatile. She carries a variety of bolts: standard steel-tipped for revenants, silver-inlaid for wraiths, ash wood for vampires, runed for demons. Some are packed with alchemical payloads; saltbursts, smoke flares or phosphor fire. Some other tools of the trade; iron nails, vials of sanctified oil, black salt, and grave dust. A spirit lens made from obsidian. She carries a tuning fork etched with warding glyphs, voice jars, pendulums and more.
She knows the difference between a haunting and a binding, between a demon’s mark and an echo left behind by trauma. Her training combines field alchemy, protective sigilwork, and years of surviving things that don’t obey natural law.
Magic
She doesn’t call it shroudweaving, her magic not the kind you see flung from fingertips or shouted in tongues. No fireballs, no summoned storms. It’s a craft built from ritual, instinct, and hard-earned knowledge of what lies beyond the lands of the living. It is subtle, methodical, and based on ancient rites, sigils, alchemical preparation, and focused mental discipline. Her magic is heavily ritualistic and tool-dependent, a blend of runecraft, alchemy, and spiritualism. Most spells require preparation, materials, or a spoken component.
She can anchor a spirit to a room with nothing but a scrap of hair and a glyph drawn in bone ash. When the wind dies and the animals fall silent, she knows to reach for the nail dipped in grave oil, Hex Nail they call it, and drive it into the nearest wood to keep the dead from slipping through the cracks.
She can speak a banishment rite without stumbling, even while bleeding. And if something tries to crawl inside her, demon, spirit, or worse, it’ll find her soul isn’t soft. She’s marked herself with old wards and pain-triggered counterspells. They lash out when something touches her mind without permission.
