Traditionally believed to have been born from the mountain range known as the Fingers of the Father in a mythical event prior to the Age of Antiquity, Dwarves are a people summarized by the saying, “From stone to stone.”

A deeply proud people of craftsfolk, artisans, and warriors, the Dwarven forges have become the stuff of legends. Fueled by the petrified remains of elder Dwarves, popular folklore suggests that Dwarven accouterments contain the ancestral soul of their people. Notably, rumors speak of the creation of the ruler’s crown and how it may contain the remains of the first Dwarven lord. Dwarven culture emphasizes this pride in self and in ancestors, placing a high value on age, wisdom, and tradition as a result. Culturally, they are known to sport beards despite a lack of natural proclivity towards accelerated hair growth. Few members of the people explain this fascination.

Biology

Theorized to possess a stable senescence, common knowledge of Dwarves suggests their bodies grow in perpetuity, becoming immobile with the passage of time. The precise point at which the Dwarf calcifies varies by individual. Reliable records track mobile Dwarves up to and possibly surpassing the age of 400, with folk records and secondary sources of members in excess of 1,000 years. A stout folk, Dwarf physiology suggests an average height varying between 4 and 5 feet, often noted to possess a robust sturdiness.

Relationship with the Shroud

The moniker of “Runefolk” was granted to the Dwarves initially out of superstition surrounding their forges. The Dwarves are tied deeply to magic, both in pursuit of their crafts and by cultural value. Due to their traditional nature, Dwarven society as a whole has yet to adopt widespread acceptance of magitech or even the use of Shroud Crystals.
