Writing this to keep a record. Got to start somewhere.
Heard a story once. About a fledgling hero who's test is to leave their island. Must lift dense boulder to earn their exit. Seemed impossible. Went about the island. Found a rock instead. A pebble in comparison. Lifted that instead.
Walked and ran with that on back. Earned sweat and true sleep. Found bigger rock, lifted that, carried that. More sweat. Bigger meals.
This goes on, eating, lifting, lumbering deeds, and just plain lumbering. Soon, the vast boulder is looking smaller. Hero is looking bigger. More rocks on back and lashed to wrist, more sweat. Bigger meals again. Impossible starts to shrink. Shrink into ought, might, could, will. This goes on. Until.
The boulder found itself lifted. Soon hefted. Hurled. Then, soon, with grit, rolled from shoulderblade to palm with grin. He was ready. More than he thought impossible could let him be.
The island shrank from sight, boulder now just a boulder, waiting for another. Hero knowing much about ought, might, could and will. Their shoulders broad and their hunger grown. Their eyes to other things impossible.
I tell that one better in person. Easier when you have props. All I have is this quill.
Getting more ink after drills.
