Maevyth

Age  possibly late 20's (she doesn't know at what age she was taken)
Gender  Female
Origin  Devahni
Occupation  Alchemist/Apothecary

Maeve to her friends.
Mae to her lovers.
And Viper to those that cross her.

Maevyth, a Devahni, was kidnapped as a child and sold into a life of servitude in a notorious brothel within the Arshakan Empire that catered to the "exotic." The only clue she has of her past is a brooch of bone, one side emblazoned with the letter M and the other a marred and faded crest of a snake. Over the years, she honed her skills as a courtesan, becoming renowned for her charm. During her time there, she formed a deep bond with an elf named Elion, and together they dreamed of freedom.

After a decade of toil behind gilded curtains, they saved enough coin to buy their freedom, only to find their Madam reneging on the deal. In a desperate bid for escape, Maevyth and Elion fought back, leading to their Madam's death. They fled into the night, seeking refuge in the elven land of Silmorael. Where Elion learned their original House had been destroyed, the only lone survivor being an aunt she was close with that had married into another Lower House before the massacre. And despite the elves’ notorious xenophobia, Maevyth was granted sanctuary for her role in aiding the return of one of their daughters.

In Silmorael, she embraced her new life, studying herbology, alchemy, and natural magics of the Shroud. As years passed, Maevyth became skilled in the arts of potion-making and herbal remedies. Yet, she'd always felt the ache of her lost family and a longing to uncover her origins.

Eventually, with a desire to finally see the world and find who she is, she made her way to Crown's Hold in the Kingdom of Altalusia, where she opened The Serpent's Still, an apothecary and alchemy shop renowned for its specialty brews. With a motto of “Ingredients as Rare as Your Secrets”.

Now reaching her fifth year of success with her business, Maevyth navigates her new world of nobility and intrigue within the city, gathering rare and dangerous ingredients, with the help of her hired live-in bodyguard, while seeking the truth about her past and hiding from the consequences of her choices.

(Just as the famous woman of Sicily, Maevyth employs a similar underground operation in our fantasy world. One where she helps the oppressed, especially women, to covertly eliminate abusive or unwanted spouses. Women from every caste seek out her secret services in an effort to find freedom.)
