Orkin
| Other Names | orcs, goblins, ogres, oni, trolls |
| Lifespan | 70+ |
| Average Height | 3'5" - 7'0" |
The orkin began as nomadic peoples, hunters, shepherds and seafarers who journeyed to every corner of the land. Their histories from this early time tell of fabled heroes and powerful sages, those who rose above the fetters of the world to reach a state of sublimity. This sense of freedom and adventure still persists in the orkish zeitgeist, even as many tribes fixed themselves into settled places.
Biology
It is said that an orkin can freeze solid and thaw out the next spring and while this is not true, they do have a remarkable resistance to the elements. Thick skin protects them from harsh winds and blazing fire. Stature and build vary from tribe to tribe - some are slender and elegant, while others are formidable walls of muscle and bone. Their most distinguishing - and universal - trait are their round, pointed canines, the bottom of which grow continually and must be regularly filed down.
Relationship with the Shroud
Orkish magic has an emphasis on physical movement, inward reflection, and ascetic discipline. Weaving is a way to align the earthly body with spiritual perfection, and is one of many paths an orkin can walk to better themselves. For the orkin, practicing magic is an act of self actualization, a way of reaching a higher understanding of existence.
Much like other peoples, only a small number of orkin have the innate ability to cast spells. Outsiders might find it surprising then, how large their schools of magic are, and how many orkin have a novice understanding of the Shroud. Even those who cannot pull from the Shroud will follow the teachings of elder sages and train as weavers. Whether a weaver ever successfully casts a spell, is of secondary concern to them.
