Pava, Roc of Rangan

Gender  Masculine
Origin  Roc
Occupation  Sorcerer, Emissary of Rangan

The one called Pava is neither the first or last of its name. This Pava, one of many, escaped perpetuity. Born of a cyst upon Rangan's back, the emptied pus and ichor breathed life into the skin of a roc.

In stories traded by those of Mershawl, living under the Mheara's shadows and beneath the peaks long known as the Rangan, it is said there reigns a mystical king above the clouds that wears the skin of beasts. The nature of this being is unknown, with raconteurs settling for 'chimera' or simply 'king of beasts' in the telling. Colloquially, the creature is called Rangan, the namesake of the peaks. Few know this for fact, and fewer still brave such heights willingly. Even in an age of airship and magitech flight the very tip of the Rangan appears nigh impassable.

Rangan, this chimera king, ruled its domain with indifference, making no loud demand of those who would live in its shadow. But that is perhaps misconception, rather a very human perception of events. For creatures that trade generation in the blink of a century, Rangan indeed appears little more than myth; the silent rumor of a beast among beasts that commands a kingdom at the top of a mountain. A fable. Generation after generation, born and dead again without a murmur from the caliginous figure of the mountain.

Judge them not too harshly, little Pava. Theirs is the ignorance of youth. They cannot know the shifting of slate and stone, of eon past and the prescient breach of contract forged upon the ancient moons.

Go forth, remind them. May their tribute come plump and without grievance. May their lands know not the toil of avalanche, of storm to fester

Appearance

Height  Varies—trends tall
Build  Varies—trends lithe
Hair  Burgundy
Eyes  Pitch

Pava, who wears most often the skin of a hume, conforms little to consistency. What remains true beyond form is his hair: the color of bark reddened by touch of peat moss and starkly white and then black at the tips, resembling the feathers of some great bird. His eyes shift with the season, but tend towards pitch, a black with depth to reveal little to no iris. In shape, he resembles the mean of what surrounds him—emaciated, gaunt among the impoverished, plump and round in presence of those noble scions. It is an unconscious thing.

Personality

Curious, ill-mannered, quick-tempered, and impatient.

Skills

As a sorcerer of Rangan, the one called Pava excels in weaving magic through resonance and sound. Most spells begin with a hum, the depth and length of them determining strength. As a roc, Pava is vicious. Talons that can match steel, hide thick as rough leather, and hearts tucked away behind surprisingly tensile bones.
