House Sinclayr of White Port
PRELUDE
The late Lord Damyan Sinclayr often thought of himself as the only man in the marshland. The Viscount surrounded himself with snakes and lions, ermines and eagles, confident that he could outwit them all. He did not vet the company that he kept, letting every manner of priest, politician, cutthroat and courtier grace his halls. The name of Sinclayr sullied by their selfish loyalties. In the first few days after Lady Eden Sinclayr inherited her father's seat, she set a new standard of loyalty. She caught every snake by its head, and chased every lion out of the garden.
When she was done, ten men remained.
House Sinclayr
House Sinclayr wrought its name in copper and tin. Once, long ago, they owned mines across Altalusia - but it has been generations since such common ores supported the House. Now, they maintain most of their wealth through trade contracts. They do not have as impressive a fleet of ships as the other powerful families of White Port. Most of their goods travel over land routes, into the heartland of Altalusia and as far as the capital. The current head of the House is Eden til Sinclayr. She is one of the three Viscounts of White Port, having inherited the title from her father after his death five years ago. An only child, she was raised for the role, a wide-eyed girl sitting on her father's knee as he debated in the council room. The people of White Port are used to her presence, and accepted her rule with little fuss.
This does not mean that the court has any respect for the young noble. The Sinclayr's reputation is still tarnished by her father's eccentricities, and her own record of accomplishments is brief. Eden does not seem interested in restoring her House's old glory, however. She is occupied with cosmic questions of mortality, obsessed by her experiments into the Shroud.
In the corners of court, there are whispers that the young Viscount is suffering from the same sickness that claimed her father's life - a curse only born from heretical use of the weave.
THE GUYS IN QUESTION
I am using 'guys' in the poetic sense. Characters can be any gender and the concepts are very open :vEden's allies don't have to serve House Sinclayr directly - they could be informants, mercenaries, or childhood friends. The only requirement is that when she calls on them, they answer.
The Groundskeeper (NPC)
Janin Anmore has served the Sinclayr family for decades. He does the gardening, feeds the hounds, keeps the house, and makes sure Eden eats at least once a day. There's not a nook or cranny in the estate that he doesn't have a keen inventory of.
The Rogue (claimed by lucie) The Shadow (claimed by Tipsy) The Witch Erzulie | The Doctor (claimed by tops) The Outlander OPEN The Innocent OPEN |
QUEST BOARD
Below are some starter ideas to get things rolling. There are open-ended and can be taken up by any character, not just one of the Ten. They can also be approached from any angle - you may find that it makes more sense for your character to be working against House Sinclayr instead of with them.Once a thread has enough

The late Lord Sinclayr funded many experiments and studies into magitech. He was not overly concerned with the integrity of the weavers and artificers he employed. A hacksaw workshop and a dozen unsolved disappearances can be traced back to the Sinclayr's fortune. Nearly two decades later, someone - a rogue detective, a vengeful family member, or one of the victims themselves - has unburied that gruesome history.

No fun at parties

Another member of high society in White Port, Lady Verity Merrowyn, has publicly accused Eden of being a misanthropic shut-in. With each declined invitation and missed appearance from the Lady Sinclayr, the rumor grows stronger. Eden seems unconvinced that she need do anything to mend her public persona, but recent stirrings at court show otherwise.

A caravan heading North to the town of Jammore never reached its destination. Part of the cargo was a large and precious shroudstone, its crate stamped with the Sinclayr seal. The shard was needed to repair Jammore's Ring Tower. Without its tower operational, the town will be vulnerable to the rising blight that has taken over the nearby forest. House Sinclayr has promised to complete its trade contract. Either the shroudstone must be recovered, or they must find another way to protect the town while a replacement is sourced.

Holy Labors
Participants: [OPEN]
Traditions of the Eight dictate that those of the refined labors - merchants and nobles - should open their doors at certain times of the year and invite apprentices to study under them. Despite House Sinclayr's infamously strict requirements for such an understudy, a young girl from a fisher family has passed every test. The House is now obligated to host her for a summer. Eden seems perturbed at the idea of a child running about her estate, and has asked for help in corralling the girl.
