'I don't know,' Willard replied, mug cusped between his gloved hands as he leaned forward. 'It's been over a decade since I saw them last.' Despite the years that passed, he still retained the accent. 'I'm from the Highlands, originally. My blood-family are leagues upon leagues away. I hope to see them again, one day, but-' He paused, shook his head. 'It'll have to wait.' The Order was his family now. From the Captains all the way down to the saplings whom the order had adopted.
Venla's gaze flitted to the door, and Willard's went with it.
'Thought about what you're going to tell them?' He asked, looking up at her. 'Your kith and kin aren't like to take the news well. I find its hard to let go of something you love.' Timbers creaked as he made to stand. Weapons rattled. Venla had allowed him to take a peek behind the curtain of her life. To stay while she went seemed like trespass. 'A young knight shows up late in the day to whisk you off at sword-point. That will go down well, won't it?'
