”Well my dear Cahir~ It’s been a while since we last ‘talked’, young one. Come, let us speak.” Mathis chuckled lightly as he led the way for the youngest. Pushing the thick wooden doors open an open training field stood before them both. Weapons of choice lined the erected walls of the outdoor dojo. Barefeet met cool grass as the mercenary clad in hard leather sauntered to the left side. Leaving the right open for Cahir to make their approach and gear up.

Eldest counted at least three years' worth of conversation to be had. Left hand grabbed around the base of a wooden greatsword, the right held a tower shield with ease. Rolling his neck and shoulders, he felt his body rock like an ocean current. Gently and subtly, the wooden edge hovered above the ground before he advanced. Taking several steps forward, he flicked his left hand up in an arch from the floor. Thanks to his natural strength, the weapon moved like a thin stick in the soldier's hands. Quick and unforgiving due to no threat of death. Using the momentum from his last step, he twisted at the hips, accelerating the upward cut. His stance remained ready with the left foot forward and the right shoulder length apart. Pointing his toes at Cahir, Mathis had no intention of backing up.

"Come!"
@Cahir Omin

Amusement danced in the youngest's gaze as they followed into the open space, taking pause long enough to inhale the fresh air with a slow, steady breath. "A brute eager to speak, color me surprised."

The snark came naturally, voice low and borderline bored if it weren't for a subtle smirk curling the side of their lips. Cahir couldn't remember the last time either of their paths crossed. They were often busy in other parts of the world, traveling far beyond South Ilica and rarely finding the time to return for simple pleasantries. Perhaps the means for something familiar is what made them come back. A need to reconnect after being surrounded by more than just chaos these past years. Maybe, instead, it stemmed from a need to change scenery. Whatever Cahir's purpose, they were more pleased having welcomed company than anything else that can only come from family.

Cahir drifted right, eyeing the weapon choices as if perusing a wardrobe. Mauve robes slip from their shoulders to reveal fitted leather armor beneath, casually tossing the fine attire to hang over the hilt of a wooden greatsword. Clawed nails eventually graze along the length of a straight bo staff before plucking it from the rack. Simple. Useful. The youngest didn't need anything fancier to get the job done.

With an approving hum, they turned away and began the walk back to face off against Mathis with slow, deliberate steps. A last-minute realization had them jerking into a defensive stance, backstepping enough for stability while gripping the bo staff with both hands, They snapped the pole in a sideways maneuver, striking at the greatsword to throw off its trajectory with a sharp crack of wood. A brief flash of surprise glimmered in honey-slitted eyes; though, Cahir shouldn't have expected pleasantries before the match.

A subtle tilt of their head showed when the other challenged for advancement. Then... Cahir grinned. And twisted their weapon while keeping their two-handed grip, swinging the bottom half of the staff upward in a spear-type motion toward their brother's chest.

"
Wanting to taste dirt today, are we? We'll hardly be able to catch up if your mouth is stuffed full of earth."

Grinning broadly, Mathis stepped diagonally to the right he side-stepped the right-handed upward swing aimed at him. Pulling the sword in close, it created a barrier between the staff and his body. It was always an interesting interaction when two left-handed people fought. Everything was a mirror to some degree. Using his left hand, he defended against the staff with the edge of the greatsword. Even if Cahir tried to reverse the motion down or to the right, it would be hard fought and blocked by the crossguard. Keeping a solid stance, his hips rotated inward towards Cahir's exposed side.

The large tower shield in his right hand was now coming in to hammer the Youngest. "You still make the same open-ended mistakes instead of keeping your distance.~"

Once upon a time, in their younger years when first taking up a weapon, they may have fallen prey to close combat temptations. A foolish attempt to block or shift the staff at this angle would result in an unwanted strike too early. Angling hips, Cahir managed a quick step to swing their right leg back for a stance adjustment, planting the ball of their foot to stabilize the weight shift and allowing them to dance backward by a few extra feet. This allowed them to avoid the encroaching dangers of either having their face bashed in or worse, being knocked on their ass.

"
Simply testing the waters," they quipped back smoothly. "Bold of you to assume I make the same mistakes twice, kin~"

Cahir readjusted once more while pulling the bo staff from the left side to bring it horizontally around their front, spinning it around their waist to secure some space for distance between the pair. Their right foot settled behind while the left squared with their shoulder, toes of the left pointed towards Mathis. Hands slipped down the staff's length as it settled back into center position, gripping the end with their right hand while their left held higher for control. The staff is now pointed towards the eldest, Cahir back into a brief, paused beginning stance while mentally calculating where they could sneak in a strike next.

Smiling broadly, Mathis was impressed and very happy to see Cahir adjust their stance and placement. Chuckling slowly, Mathis kept moving around his sibling. "Good, this is very good.." Mathis cooed lightly, admiring the youngest's posture and placement. Stopping back before Cahir, Mathis inclined his head and readied himself.

Holding his shield up, his sword point rested atop the tower shield as he inched forward. Taking a half step at a time, he would bide his time to see their progress. The shield would not be needed for much longer. He intended to hopefully force the youngest to utilize all the learned weapons. Any lack found would be exploited and used to their demise.

Was he not merciful? House Omin's embers needed to be rekindled. Speaking in the Omin tongue, "Strike with all your might." Mathis yielded the next strike to Cahir.[/Orange]

One thing Cahir learned throughout the ages of his ventures was adaptation. They keenly picked up on the other's attempt to goad them, a feat that might have had them blindly striking forward in hopes of landing something for once. Rather than give in to old habits they instead went off their known script.

Right foot coming forward to plant perpendicular to their body, the back end of the bo staff abruptly snapped forward, dragging across the lone patch of dirt they eyed during their previous moment of calculation. Earth and grass alike go flying upward and cloud the air between them, tiny pebbles clanging against the shield. Their left foot shifted to their toes in the motion, leaving a chance to pivot within the second of distraction. Cahir wasted no time.

The staff shifted slightly in their grip midair over their shoulder, popping the edge with their right hand to swing it around their neck as they twisted left. Cahir spiraled down as they spun and gripped the weapon once more, only grabbing the new end with their left once it completed its rotation. Their left knee hovered over the ground as they centered in their crouch and while the staff still swung they added their strength. The opening of the shield somewhere between Mathis' side and the gap at his feet is where they aimed. Cahir angled their body in a low, stable warrior pose with their left leg stretched and leaning mostly on their right as they brought the staff hard toward his left ankle. The motion altogether takes mere seconds while banking on the spray of earth to aid this. Intent, ultimately, is to take his feet out from under him. If they can at least cause a flinch or a stumble then they'll still be satisfied.

Humming to himself mentally, Mathis watched Cahir with keen interest. To say he was surprised would be an overstatement because he would have smoke-screened as well. What was not hidden was the sound of Cahir's staff whirling through the air. Keen to his senses, Mathis shuffled a step forward into the cloud. Placing his shield at the elevated length of the staff, where it would crack against the tower shield, not his foot. Without hesitation, he stomped down on the length, adjusting his stance so now Cahir had an option to wrestle the staff from beneath Mathis's weight or let go to prevent their hand from being pinned down to the ground. Even with the extended distance, the greatsword jabbed down with its length 6' plus another 3' due to his arm length. Aiming to knock Cahir either on the shoulder or head. It did not matter which he hit; Mathis only meant to make them move.

No words, only intense focus as Mathis peaked out through the last bits of falling dust. He could make out Cahir's outline as he stabbed, waiting to see how the youth would respond.

The loud clank as their staff hit the shield left a vibration running up their arm, and Cahir swallowed down a curse when realizing they didn't slip a strike into the opening originally spotted. Eyes caught sight of the foot moving swiftly to stomp downward. Preferring to avoid being pinned right off the bat, they surrendered their weapon, pulling back their arm just in time before fingers could get crushed into the earth beneath it. Temporarily losing the staff would be annoying, and they couldn't easily get to the others for a quick selection just yet; however, this was only a minor setback.

An ear twitched when Cahir recognized the telling swipe through the air, eyes briefly glancing up to see dust swirling and the wooden blade cresting through the cloud on its way toward them. What Cahir needed was for that damned shield out of the way. They could pick and dance all day only to tire themself out by the end of things, all the while the eldest remained centered behind an immoveable wall. So it was time to move the damn thing.

Pushing with their right foot out of the lengthened crouch, they shifted left to avoid the downward strike of the greatsword while also bursting forward when the center of gravity was balanced enough to manage an almost pivoted lunge, directly toward Mathis rather than retreating. Their movement turned quick and lethal, near-silent like a viper springing from the tall grass. Left arm over right, they created an 'X' in front of them for added contact while their chin tilted down to align the sturdy base of their horns with their motive.

Their arms remained firm for strength, yet ready to reach for whatever reason they might need. The goal, ultimately, would be to catch their kin off guard from the abrupt charge. The subtle angle change of his attack offered Cahir a moment to capitalize on his balance, aiming to knock him backward by hitting the shield dead-center with their weight.

'1.. 2.. 1.. 2.. 1.. 2..' In his mind, all he had was counting the release of the staff; he worked to continue to see things from his siblings' point of view. Yet this did not stop him very much, another half step and pivot, he drove the shield forward and up as if in an oncoming upper cut. He did not move to avoid them; he did move to shock them, cutting the distance down with a burst of speed and power. His left arm came across with the flat of the wooden blade, looking to punish their approach again.

Would they take the bash of the shield or keep weaving, the staff now behind him, he kept its placement in mind. Would they be so stubborn to not retreat and grab a new tool? The cadence in his mind continued as he entered his battle focus; now he would stop testing. Going forward from here, he would come with all of his might.
